How WatchTeams handles data. Publisher: Devfinition (Antonio Vila). Last updated 12 October 2026.

What WatchTeams is

WatchTeams is a Microsoft Teams client for iPhone and Apple Watch. You sign in with a Microsoft work, school, or personal account. The app then shows chats, calendar, presence, and — if you turn them on — teams and channels.

Chat and calendar stay with Microsoft

WatchTeams does not run a server that stores your messages, meetings, or channel posts. Those are requested from Microsoft Graph and shown on your devices. Sign-in tokens stay on the device.

Access is delegated: the app acts as you, with the permissions your organisation allows. An admin can revoke WatchTeams from Microsoft Entra enterprise applications.

Microsoft Graph permissions

Core sign-in uses User.Read, Chat.Read, Chat.ReadWrite, Calendars.Read, and Presence.Read.

Optional Teams and channels use Team.ReadBasic.All, Channel.ReadBasic.All, ChannelMessage.Read.All, ChannelMessage.Send, and Presence.Read.All.

WatchTeams does not request Mail, Files, or directory write permissions. Meeting locations shown in the app are the location text on the calendar event, not your device’s GPS position.

Firebase and Google AdMob

The iPhone app uses Firebase, a Google service, for product analytics and crash diagnostics. Firebase Analytics records product events such as sign-in, admin-approval, Forward to IT, and sign-out. Firebase Crashlytics records crash diagnostics so failures can be fixed.

The iPhone companion also shows Google AdMob banner and interstitial ads. AdMob is a Google advertising service. Google may process device and advertising data under Google’s own policies when an ad is requested or shown. WatchTeams does not ask for location permission and does not read your device location itself. App Store privacy labels currently list Location, Usage Data, and Diagnostics as data not linked to your identity, which reflects those Google analytics, crash, and advertising providers.
